Day at the Museum - 09.09.08

My sisters and I went to the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Dayton, Ohio - the world's largest and oldest of its kind last Saturday (September 7 6 - Oops, thanks to Carey for point out! I am going to blame the Windows Time & Date utility hehe ;) ). I didn't really want to go there initially because of the long trip (~3 hours, 1½ hour to and back) but I don't regret a bit about having been there now, and I am not even that much into aviation nor space. It's just so awesome!!
Here are some of the pictures we took (well, my sister took them, since I am in most of the pictures below) while we were there.

Staring contest woot woot!

Ancient wind tunnel, circa early 1900s.

Hey look at where I am pointing at, that's where the problem is.

Fly high fly high.

No no, not UFO. It's Avrocar, "a secret U.S. military project carried out in the early years of the Cold War [...] intended to exploit the Coandă effect to provide lift and thrust from a single "turborotor" blowing exhaust out the rim of the disk-shaped aircraft to provide anticipated VTOL-like performance." [Wikipedia]

Endeavour, command module for Apollo 15, "the ninth manned mission in the Apollo program and the fourth mission to land on the Moon." [Wikipedia]
