3 comments First Football Game - 09.27.08

Haochi's first football game

I have never really been involved in sports of any kind, whether viewing or participating the sports, with the exception of those required in P.E. classes and that one time I participated in my elementary school's 100-meter relay in like, third grade, which my team came in second if I recall correctly.

Well, I will just cut to the chase: I attended to my first ever (American) football game (at my high school) last night. The night was fun and I really liked the atmosphere there, but the game itself which, ironically, doesn't have much of that fun and exciting elements to me that I barely paid any attention to it the whole night.

I didn't take a lot of photos last night so there aren't much to share. I did capture the half-time show on video but the performance wasn't all that great either so sorry, no video either. (I can send you the links to the pics & videos if you want to see them though.)

Despite all that, I still had fun, so ... "Great atmosphere A+++ will go again!"

Oh and my school's team won 27-0.

This photo was taken back in November 2005, during a power outage

Last Sunday, Hurricane Ike - the fifth hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season - hit the Midwest, causing millions of people to live without electricity for several days (and took away at least 22 lives).

The power was completely out (for me) at around 4:15 on Sunday, and the wind was blowing rather hard that the electricity went out for twice prior to that. So with pretty much nothing to do at the time, I went outside and start shooting videos and enjoy the wind and such.

I thought that the outage would only be a few hours and that electricity will be restored by dusk (so that the city won't be left in the dark!), however, the outage (for me) lasted a total of 92 hours and about 50 minutes.

Anyway, once the sky start turning dark my sister and I started building a small campfire in our backyard. Wasn't exactly that fun with all the smoke from burning the woods but we didn't have much to do until we start watching movies & TV shows on the laptops - feeding off their batteries.

Schools were closed for the following couple of days, and my activities were of shopping, moving, and going to bed earlier - hey, it's good for the body after all. For the shopping part, I bought a new computer monitor (Acer AL1916W) for a pretty decent price (comparing to the manufacturer price and other similar products, but I have to do the very uncool mail-in rebate) and helped my sister moved her stuff into her new apartment for the, well, moving part.

The power was back up briefly yesterday afternoon for about 1 hour and 8 minutes then was out again. I was pretty upset about that because I didn't get to do a lot of things during that time period, except setting up the new monitor. At around 9:45 p.m. the same day the lights flickered twice, but electricity was still a no-no for us. :( I peeked through the kitchen window and the AEP electricians were outside and that the lights of the residencies on the other side of the street were on, indicating their restored electricity.

"Woot woot it's our turn to have the power restored." I thought to myself, but the electricians packed up and left - left us in the cold (figurative) and dark one more night.

That was so not cool of them, but I can't complain much because working 24/7 was probably not part of their job.

Well, they came back early in the morning (around 9, I saw them on the way back from Giant Eagle for some milk) and finally had the electricity restored a few minutes before 2 a.m. yah yah! :)

Life without electricity therefore over, and life is to be continue on - starting with going back to school tomorrow, ugh... :D

Day at the National Museum of the United States Air Force

My sisters and I went to the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Dayton, Ohio - the world's largest and oldest of its kind last Saturday (September 7 6 - Oops, thanks to Carey for point out! I am going to blame the Windows Time & Date utility hehe ;) ). I didn't really want to go there initially because of the long trip (~3 hours, 1½ hour to and back) but I don't regret a bit about having been there now, and I am not even that much into aviation nor space. It's just so awesome!!

Here are some of the pictures we took (well, my sister took them, since I am in most of the pictures below) while we were there.

No no, not UFO. It's Avrocar, "a secret U.S. military project carried out in the early years of the Cold War [...] intended to exploit the Coandă effect to provide lift and thrust from a single "turborotor" blowing exhaust out the rim of the disk-shaped aircraft to provide anticipated VTOL-like performance."
